Worship Leader

  • A flexible position in a gorgeous area where our small(ish) church loves to worship Jesus, soak in the Scriptures, pray, and let our lives impact the spiritually-charged atmosphere of Santa Cruz, CA. Looking for a leader who can develop leaders, is passionate about the Presence of God, can lead a room into His Presence, and also lead with integrity, power, and collaboration. We have one service at 9:30 am on Sundays and a discipling time afterward (called Equipping Hour) at 11am. See our website for more info: HSCChurch.org
  • $15,000-17,000 per year, 
  • 10-15 hours a week, 
  • 3-4 weekends a month.
    • Possibility of more if choose to bypass utilizing guest worship leaders on “one of four” Sundays, for increased income
    • This would basically be like you choosing to be a “guest worship leader” for yourself and paying yourself, we can discuss this more if you’re interested
  • Events and services:
    • Helps lead Good Friday, Easter and Christmas Eve services (unless otherwise discussed)
    • Strongly encouraged to attend church life meetings (may have shower 5-7 minute update/presentation in a meeting 2x/yr)
    • Strongly encouraged to attend other church-wide events (church clean up days, holiday events, summer events, etc.  unless otherwise discussed)
    • Ministers in our Creatives Conference 1x/yr, music worship and mentor groups
      • Considers ministering in other conferences and retreats
        • Women’s Day of Renewal
        • Journey with Jesus to the Cross
        • House of Prayer (weekly meeting, or monthly Saturday-all-day)
        • Other Saturday events , developed in relationship with Lead Pastor
    • The Worship Director can flex weekly hours to make up for higher demand weeks

Values:

  • Significantly agrees with statement of faith and partners/supports church vision and mission
    • As needed, brings any questions or current processes regarding statement of faith to lead pastor and/or Pastoral Leadership Team in reasonable time to allow for relational process for the heart, theology, and vision
  • Connection and Consistency within our body
      • Who will relationally connect with the church as a part of our body through regularly attending the second hour (“equipping hour”/second hour) and seeks to build relationships intergenerationally as if this really is their church 
  • Holistic sound, incorporating scripture rich hymns and modern spiritual songs (Colossians 3:16)
      • Who will honor the older generation, and spiritual history, including hymns rich in theology without sacrificing a holistic sound for the service and church
      • A desire to mature their music and talent to the best of their ability while they lead at High Street.
  • Lead and co-discern services with Lead Pastor
    • Who will co-discern the services, contribute musically to the preaching themes, integrate with the theme and direction of the church 
    • Chooses music that carry the theme of the current series and take deeper the theological ideas and voice of the Spirit through a repeated song
    • Introduces new songs that hit the heart of a budding younger worshipping generation
    • Introduces their own original songs, or learns, co-leads, etc with those in the church creating songs (again in with the holistic sound)
  • Devotion to Jesus, His word, His transforming power 
    • Personally, have and live out and saving relationship with Jesus and are going on their own journey of maturity with the Lord
    • See music, creativity, and worship as a core part of their personal calling and dream, and they see this cultivated while in their role at High Street
    • Practice the reading and study of scripture on their own
    • Experience the Person of the Holy Spirit as operative in your life
  • Spirit led, able to attune to the “room”, the congregation, and partner with the flow of the Spirit in the current season
    • Cultivate the Spirit of worship and prayer that has pervaded our services the last year 
    • We desire a Worship Director who is ready and hungry to move with the Holy Spirit while staying soaked in the Scriptures and honoring people's process.
  • Develop upcoming voices and worship team
    • We desire a leader who can develop (a) worship team(s), which can be from outside the church, and even better if voices/musicians inside our body
    • We need a leader who can lead and develop multiple voices
      • And most importantly a culture of young voices as we grow the involvement of UCSC, young marrieds, young adults, etc.
    • And bring their own unique relationship, passion, and gifts to this body
    • Who will serve and lead by cultivating their own voice, calling to higher-volume the churches voice, and help us to “hear the Lord’s voice” through song, music and creativity
    • Who will cultivate new younger voices and new “bands”, who can call up the next generation as a whole “sound”
      • We have a huge potential network of young musicians in…
        • UCSC (3 blocks away)
        • In our youth group, 
        • In our connection with college ministries like Intervarsity, Chi Alpha, Ekklesia, Christian Challenge, etc. at UCSC
        • At Mount Hermon Conference Center, who has summer staffers each summer want a reason to stay in Santa Cruz and connect a church like ours
        • Let’s pull on them and invite them into an opportunity-rich community where they can develop their gifts, grow intergenerational, and become the leaders God created them to be
    • Collaborative Vision for raising up a “collective of Artists” a culture of worshippers who move with the wave of the Holy Spirit. 
      • This collective carries energy for both the worship director, the leaders, and the church
      • This ought to be more than just music, it may be painting, dance, rap, recording, producing, video, social media etc., and can partner with Creatives Conference
      • I love UPPERROOM as a model for there, but there are lots of places that develop a passion for the Lord’s presence that is both biblically rooted and also meets the current cultures hunger for presence, experience, and authenticity.  
  • Calling a Worship Director who sees the service as a space for worship-experiences, where people are drawn into the presence of God as they worship, where we respond to Him first, and let the shape of the service be paced by Him. 

• Connected to the point above, this worship isn’t just dutiful prayer or popular music but may shift between intercession, basking in God’s presence, adoring quiet, spontaneous shouts, tears of repentance, songs of joy, or whatever need be to follow the movement of Jesus Living in His church
